I do not play most video games. Superficially I chalk this up to me not liking violence. It's true that having to commit violence in a video game makes me nauseous and I avoid it whenever possible. But there are games like EVE Online which are generally non-violent, and I don't play those either. I guess rather than scratching my beard and pondering on that, I should make a list of games which I have played and enjoyed:
- Cave Story
- This game was worth every second. I even replayed it multiple times. I haven't gotten through the secret stage, though.
- Tux Racer
- Yes, it's that only Linux game ever and it's 8 years old now. For some reason, the mild thrill of flying downhill and the exploration element still make it fun.
- Roller Coaster Tycoon (original)
- This is a great game because you're basically making your own level. The isometric graphics are also wonderful. I'm sure Transport Tycoon would be just as fun if only I were willing to take the effort to find out how to play it.
- Portal
- One of the few video games I've actually taken the effort to beat. It made me nauseous when I played for three hours and I had to turn it off without beating the final boss. But I came back to it a couple months later and finished it.
- ZZT and Megazeux
- I loved all the ZZT and Megazeux games, it's a shame the community is long-dead but that was one of the highlights of my childhood.
- The Internet
- The Internet is the best game at all. I haven't gotten to the final boss yet, but I'm still trying.
