As I argue in How the Web was Lost, on the Internet all identities are equal. There are several advantages to choosing a username over using your real name, and I will outline them here.
- With a fresh pseudonym you have the right to vanish at your disposal.
- Using a pseudonym instead of a real name prompts people to respond to you on the Internet rather than stalking you.
- Pseudonyms are just shorter, and cooler.
