Examples of high transhumanist thought
Wouldn't it be great if:
- we had wings?
- we had X-ray vision?
- we could heal ourselves like Wolverine?
- we were furries?
- we were coddled brains in vats?
Examples of intelligent transhumanist debate
- "You know what? If you don't like human enhancement that's only because you've been educated stupid by our Puritan society. Deal with it!"
- Typically said to no-one at all.
- "The high muckity-muck said that immortality would either happen in our lifetime or not happen at all."
- This is a form of rapture belief. Transhumanists will typically refuse to recognize that it is a rapture belief because they think they're too smart for religion.
Quotes
- Actually, come to think of it, the parallels between Transhumanism ca. 1990-2008 and Marxism 1880-1930 are pretty striking. Confident talk about "undeniable" facts; the obsession with inventing historical laws and postulating a firm path for future history; the casual dismissal of previous systems of thought as obsolete; the development of an increasingly arcane vocabulary with an increasingly tenuous connection to lived experience; fantasies of warping time and space on a fundamental level (see Aleksey Gastev for an example of how this played out in Marxist thinking); ideological strategies designed to mark off certain populations as obsolete or reactionary; the ideological reification of "science." Let's hope the Transhumanists never have their 1917.

Prophecies
- Within thirty years, we will have the technological means to create superhuman intelligence. Shortly after, the human era will be ended.
- Vernor Vinge, 1993
