There are plenty of websites where you can find the best 100 or 250 movies, presumably for you to watch sometimes over the span of the next decade. But why would you let some guy dictate your next 250 rentals to you? He's probably a snobby film critic anyway. No, friend, I can give you a definitive list: The 10 Best Movies Ever, certified as 100% accurate by me. You can watch all 10 within 24 hours if you like. Here they are, in order from best to almost best:
- Ikiru
- I need to watch Chinese movie by the same name
- Brazil
- Tokyo Story
- Delicatessen
- Spirited Away
- Cinema Paradiso

Additional lists
While I am not afraid to list the ten best movies ever, there are of course necessary addendums.
Additional Kurosawa movies nobody should ever put down
In 3,000 years of films and plays, Kurosawa is the best director ever. Not that I ever saw one of Sophocles' plays as he directed it, but I'm going on what I know. So, here's a list of his films which are not on the other lists but I have seen and loved.
- No Regrets for our Youth
- Rashomon (Google Video)
- Ran
- The Seven Samurai
Additional Miyazaki movies nobody should ever put down
Nausicaa and Laputa, while both expressions of 20th century human longing, are left off this list because they aren't perfect.
- Princess Mononoke
- My Neighbor Totoro
- Kiki's Delivery Service
- Porco Rosso
Honorable mentions
Grab-bag list of movies I would recommend to friends
- Casablanca
- Dr. Strangelove, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
- The Bicycle Thief

- Ghost World
- O Brother, Where Art Thou?
- The Shawshank Redemption
- V for Vendetta
- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
- 2001
Ten best pointless, entertaining movies ever
Because sometimes you don't care about one's philosophy of life at all and you just want to be entertained.
- Yojimbo
- Grindhouse
- From Dusk till Dawn (for the penultimate scene alone)
- Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
- Battle Royale
- Star Wars V (must be watched after IV)
- Star Wars IV
- Fight Club
- Monty Python and the Holy Grail
- Raiders of the Lost Ark
To watch list

Movies to ignore
- The other Star Wars movies. Just pretend you never saw them. I'm so sorry.
- The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Big budget, big movie, very little room for creativity in the directing or acting.
- Anything by M. Night Shyamalan, including The Sixth Sense.
- Anything with Adam Sandler or Will Ferrel in it. You won't miss anything, trust me.
