A mūlāyapatikassanāraha is a monk who has committed a sanghadisesa offense during parivasa but has not taken up parivasa anew. If he has finished his parivasa but not yet carried out the six-night manatta before he commits a sanghadisesa offense, he is known as mānattarārahamūlayapatikassanāraha. If he was in the midle of manatta when he committed the offense, he is known as mānattacarikamūlayapatikassanārahakāla. If he completed both parivasa and mantta but had not yet been called back when he committed the offense, and he has not yet requested a new parivasa, he is known as abbhānārahamūlāyapatikassanāraha.

In any of these cases he is required to observe the parivasa rules and inform incoming monks in his vihara of his status.
